If you wanted to go north, Terrigal on the central coast is nice, as is Umina.
Alternatively if you felt like going south, Kiama is pretty; theres a blowhole (the biggest drawing card of the town!) and lots of different accommodation options, including some nice caravan parks with beach cabins. over 8 years ago

The Central Coast is only an hour North of Sydney and well worth a weekend visit. Great choices of accommodation or just to see the great beaches.

Port Macquarie or Coffs Harbour are two great towns to vist on NSW mid north coast and within 6 hours drive from Sydney. Book yourself a Holiday cabin at the local caravan park or if you want 4-5 star accommodation, try the Novatel Resort. Very nice. over 8 years ago

The Hunter valley is a wine region about 2 hours north. It has some very nice vineyards and wineries to visit. over 8 years ago

Try going south - there are some great places. Jervis Bay if you want to get away from it all is very beautiful - there is a good pub at Huskisson too! over 8 years ago

Hi - here is a piece on "gourmet retreats" within a driving distance of Sydney - even if you aren't interested in the restaurants, it highlights a bunch of areas that are within driving distance for a weekend trip with drive times, etc:

Lots of options: Blue Mountains is 1.5 hours west and beauitful mountain scenery and walks. South Jervis Bay is full of stunning white sand beaches and a restful community feel. There are some nice stops on the way (Wollongong and Kiama). North, there are beaches the whole way up whether you stop at Gosford or nearby (about an hour north) or keep driving through the lakes district (2-2.5 hrs north) or Port Macquarie (about 4.5 hrs north). over 8 years ago
