Yo Thomas! There are so many trips in Cairns that go out to the reef - prices range from about $110 - $170 for a day trip and most include lunch. You will leave from the Reef Fleet Terminal in Cairns at 7am and normally return at around 5pm - it is also possible to pay a bit extra on the day (up to $50) and get an introductory scuba dive.

We have info on loads more trips - we are from a backpackers hostel in Cairns so know them all inside out - if you would like more info just give send me a message! almost 7 years ago

Upolo Cay is a popular destination.

It might also be worth going to these guys to learn about the reef before you head out but unfortunately you won't experience the antics of the mad Irishman because he's retired.
