I assume worst money exchange deals are in the airports.
What sort of places should I be on the lookout for?

Should I be going to banks in small towns with my euros or should I go to currency exchange places in the cities?

Airports are the worst! Most banks offer a pretty good rate, and it's consistent all over Australia.
But as finance journalist David Koch discovered (and wrote about in his blog - link below) Australia Post offices offer the best deal.... and they're in every town in the country!

It might be a good idea to get an Australian bank account and just transfer your euros in to that account. almost 10 years ago
