I am traveling Australia & NZ and have seen warnings on bringing in food. Does it apply to prepackaged foods (eg snacks, protein bars, protein powder)? I have a restricted diet and rely on protein shakes & mini snacks through out the day.

Very strict. Check with Australia customs for things you can and can't bring. All fresh food is banned! about 5 years ago

Hi Curtis, I agree, very strict in Australia and New Zealand as well. You may still be able to find out online. NZ has some great protein snacks and shakes available in most places. about 5 years ago

Often if it is in a factory sealed pack with labels listing the ingredients, and it is processed food (rather than something natural that could carry pathogens harmful to aus farming) then they let you keep it.

But definitely declare everything on entry because there are sniffer dogs and the fines are very steep if you try to sneak food in. I have found that the quarantine staff are very reasonable give you the opportunity to get everything checked and ask questions. about 5 years ago
