I'm only passing through Undara on my way from Cairns to Northern Territory and would love some insight as to if it's worth stopping to see the lava tubes. It looks cool but I will be behind on my schedule it's not in my itinerary however if it's worth it, doesn't matter :)

Yes! I went last week and reckon that if I'm ever in the area again I'll go again. It was very interesting. But, be warned, you must pre book a tour (we did the night before), you can't see the tubes without a tour. The tours aren't cheap ($55pp), but we really enjoyed it. almost 4 years ago

The tubes themselves are really cool but the best bit for me was the hiking. There are great trails snaking out from the visitors' centre that take you around swamps where dragonflies and wallabies abound; or up on piles of volcanic rocks to take in the view. I stayed in a yurt-type permanent tent and did the bat tour, which was amazing. over 3 years ago

It’s a place where you can explore natural geological wonders, enjoy the comforts and hospitality of a unique outback setting and where the local wildlife are as abundant as they are at home in their surroundings over 3 years ago

Yeah, it's worth a visit, but be forearmed it's a bit pricy out there...but the hiking is unlike any around... The accomodations are nice, but when we go again, we will be camping, and not staying in their train cars...I believe it was over $300 per night. over 3 years ago
