Sydney - Cockatoo Island. That's pretty close the the Sydney Harbour. But you won't be getting any motor home on the island.
With the motor home you'll probably be looking at somewhere like Heathcote (near Cronulla) or up in the Central Coast. about 7 years ago -
Adelaide. Check this one. Walking distance to city centre. Located in Hackney. www.adelaidecaravanpark.com.au about 7 years ago

Christopher Paton is right - there's nothing in Sydney that's near the city at all! I'd consider parking your Motorhome somewhere for a week (maybe one of these distant van parks will keep it for a fee?), coming into the city and staying at one of the hostels or guest houses. You can get a double room for a reasonable fee in an amazing location if you stay at the YHA in the Rocks (http://www3.yha.com.au/Hostels/NSW/Sydney-Surrounds/Sydney-Harbour/)
In Adelaide, there's also the Caravan park at West Beach ( a bus ride into the city, but near the beach) http://www.adelaideshores.com.au/accom/caravan/ about 7 years ago -
Check out the Showgrounds, I have just stayed at EPIC in Canberra. Close to the city. about 7 years ago
