Any of the major banks probably offer the the best rates....if you go through one of these forex places you get rorted pretty heavily. I use Westpac...rates are as good as any and I can do it from their site.y over 10 years ago

Agree with Leonard - stay away from Travelex and other forex counters. Use the big banks.
DO NOT do it at the airport over 10 years agoAnswered by Yury Glikin viaTravellr.com

Thanks for the tips everyone! A word of advice though, I did end up going to one of the "big four" and realised too late that it was actually a Travelex counter inside the bank; the bank itself wasn't arranging the exchanges there. So still got ripped off with the rate.
Oh well, the rate is still a great deal better than it was a few years back so I can't complain too much! over 10 years ago -
I found you can also buy USD on prepaid credit cards. The Amex one doesn't expire either: http://www.americanexpress.com.au/globaltravel about 10 years ago

This came up the other day and I did a bit of research and found a piece by David Koch (of Sunrise fame) who'd discovered the best exchange rate (and with NO commission) is offered by Australia Post. Just check beforehand that they have some greenbacks in stock. about 10 years ago
