I am trying to plan for my trip that will begin in Jan 2014. I have been granted a 12 month Oz visa and a 23 month NZ working visa and will need to fly to Oz first to kick start the visa and then shortly after enter NZ to kick start that visa. As my Oz visa is only 12 months, I plan to fly back to Oz to make the most of the visa. I would also like to fly to Oz via Japan and spend time in Tasmania. What are the best flexi flight deals out there?

Many thanks

You might want to consider breaking this itinerary up into a few parts.
    UK to Australia return ticket?
UK to Australia return ticket which allows a return flight to and from NZ.
Or a ticket that will allow all sectors on the one ticket.
However if you are staying and working for the 23 months you won't be able to buy a return ticket as all airlines only allow 12 months. The only exception to this is possibly via STA Travel where you may be able to extend to 18 months max but the conditions are very strict.
If it was us travelling look for the best one-way ticket price that allows a stop in Australia on your way to NZ. Flights between Australia and NZ are extremely cheap now. When you are ready to fly back to UK - purchase another one-way ticket. Lots of great OW deals out there now. But remember always read the fine print - how much will it cost to change? Baggage allowance etc about 5 years ago
