What non-bank has someone used and can recommend to not gouge me like the banks appear to with their charges.

Specifically changing Malaysian Ringgit into Australian Dollars if that helps with any pointers.

I've used Travelex at the HSBC to change AUD to USD, but the exchange rate was not that great.

I ended up going to the ANZ Foreign Exchange located 96 Pitt Street (cnr Martin Place) - suprisingly it offered better rates than the numerous foreign currency exchange places dotted around the city, Commonwealth Bank also had very good rates, so it pays to check on the day you change. about 10 years ago

I was changing A$ to US$ today and the best rate was the Western Union counter at the entrance to Wynyard Station. No commission and no fees either.

One other tip: I used the calculator on my phone to check what was being quoted - one place had a rate quoted out front, but when you asked inside they just told you the converted sum. I bet most people don't check and take what they say it is ... Such a scam so do your maths for yourself! almost 10 years ago
