[if you are unfamiliar with the different varieties of Laksa, just read the Wikipedia article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laksa]

I am looking for decent Asam and/or Sarawak Laksa in Sydney.

Laksa is probably my favourite soup-based dish ever, and my favourite variety would have to be Asam Laksa. Unfortunately, Asam Laksa is not all that easy to find unless you're in certain parts of Malaysia. I had one in Melbourne once, but only after convincing the waiter that I really did want Asam Laksa, and not Curry Laksa.

I am also interested in sampling varieties of Sarawak Laksa (has elements of both Curry and Asam Laksa), or Indonesian Laksa variants...

I have tried Assam Laksa every chance I got as I used to live in Butterworth/Penang and have not found anything worth recommending in Sydney - closest I could get to the authentic taste and texture was the Assam fish at Chinta Ria http://www.chintaria.com/ at the roof terrace of Cockle bay wharf, Darling Harbour.

If anyone has found an Assam laksa around sydney that tastes like the real thing please reply. =) over 9 years ago

Try May's Laksa House in Berry Square North Sydney. Their Assam Laksa is as authentic as they come and bring back memories from my time in Penang. over 9 years ago

    Assam laksa in Sydney.

The place is called Malay Chinese - I'll say without hesitation that it's the most authentic i've tried outside of Penang.

Shop 1, 50-58 Hunter St, Sydney NSW 2000
(Closest intersection Bligh St/ Castlereagh St.)

Problem is, they only do it every X thursdays, so pays to check the daily specials first.
