We are going on a cruise and visiting Italy, Greece, Rome, Venice, Mumbai etc. We do not speak a language other than English and we are concerned we will not be able to communicate when necessary. Does the majority of people speak English so that we can understand and enjoy our trip

    When we went on an European tour, we had a guide, so language wasn't a problem,but we did find most people only speak own language. I had great trouble in Mc Donalds in Nice. They didn't understand my request. over 5 years ago

    Hi Janet, English is very widely spoken in all those destinations. It's often the accent that is confusing, for example I have to change my request for water from my usual Aussie "war-der" to "watt-errr" to get a glass of the stuff in the USA, and we supposedly share the same language!
