I'll be in Brisbane on a Sunday in March. I've only got one free day -- I'll be working or traveling for the rest of the time. What should I do?

I suggest a walk down the the Cultural Centre and Southbank. This was where expo 88 was. It has a lifestyle market on weekends, galleries, a lagoon and lots of other festivals and things. Definatly a good place to go...something always on! almost 12 years ago

I would definitely agree, South Bank is the place to go.
Friday night to Sunday night they have a street market. There are heaps of different restaurants, cafe's and bars. The scenery along the river is just gorgeous, and if the weather gets a little too hot for you there is man-made beach which is free public use.
If you are looking for a great lunch, pop in at the Plough In for a burger, the place is always packed out and the food is great. almost 12 years ago

    1. Go to South Bank and have a look around. Catch the street market if you can and take your swimming gear and use the artificial beach just like I did when I was a kid.
    2. Go on the public ferries. It'll cost you about $6 and it's a 45 minute loop and gives you nice views of the river. After all, Brisbane is the "river city."
    3. Go to one of the countless thai restaurants. Thai restaurants currently rule in Brisbane.
    4. Catch a train to Ipswitch to get an inkling of what was once a bustling mining town.
    5. Wander around the lovely Roma St parklands.
    6. Go up the clock tower above the city hall. There's a free classic elevator ride up. Also check out the anglican cathedral, the last gothic cathedral in the world and only recently completed.
    7. It's not technically Brisbane, but go up or down the coast. You can get a train all the way to the Gold Coast, or halfway to the sunshine coast and go the rest of the way by bus. almost 12 years ago
