I will be traveling through Adelaide via the Overland/Ghan Train in March. Where would you recommend good accommodations for a three night stay in Adelaide? Has anyone ever stayed at the Tollgate Hotel ?

Hi Carol, I grew up in Adelaide so haven't stayed in many of the hotels, but do know the Tollgate Motel. It's not a convenient location at all for visiting around Adelaide as it's set in the foothills right next to the freeway that goes up to the Adelaide Hills. If you were driving over, then maybe... but as you're taking the train, I'd look for something MUCH closer to the train station/CBD. A lot of Adelaide's attractions like the Museum, Art Gallery, Central Markets are in the CBD. over 5 years ago

Thank you for the info. I have done some research and have about decided on staying at Adelaide Granada, if you or anyone might be familiar with this. I am extremely excited over 5 years ago

The Granada isn't near the CBD or any touristy attractions - but this will be fine if you're planning on using the buses or hiring a car for your 3 day stay, but not so great for walking tours. If you're interested in good things to do, there's a lot that's already been written here. Just search on Adelaide and look back though the Q&A. over 5 years ago

I would recommend the Crowne Plaza Adelaide, it is located in Hindmarsh Square so a great city location close to everything, good walking distance to sights, shopping, restaurants etc. I stayed there on a business trip last year and found the staff to be very welcoming and helpful. http://www.crowneplazaadelaide.com.au/ almost 5 years ago
