I'm planning to work abroad next winter. Upon the recommendation of a friend I think I'd like to live on the Gold Cost, or at least start there. I have been browsing online for ideas, but I am curious if it would be better to live in a bigger city to fine more work? I'm not a fan or really big cities, but I'd still like to live where there are a lot of work opportunities and culture. In case it makes a difference, I am a jack of all trades (senior hairstylist, waitress, lifeguard, barista, accountant, etc) but I also do have tattoos so I don't want to end up in a town of retired seniors where everyone is staring at me.

So I suppose my questions are:
1- Where is the best job market? Would you recommend the Gold Coast?
2- Will I be ostracized because of how I look? (Even though my personality usually warms everyone up to me :D)

Cailey - I think you will be fine with your tattoos ;)

The Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast are really nice places with open minded and inteteresting people, but very laid back and quiet. I cant let you know about finding work there, but you sound like a lot of fun and willing to try all kinds of things, so I'm sure you wont have an issue.

Have you considered going inland a bit to Maleny or Caboulture - very hippy kind of communities and stunning scenery.

You will need a work visa to get any kind of work and will need to apply up front before you arrive. almost 6 years ago

Perth and WA are the best place for work, there are too many jobs and not enough people to fill them and the money is also better. Tattoos will not be a problem at all, well all have them :) Doesnt feel like a big city here either ( I have lived in big cities across Aust but Perth is where Id recommend to any international friends, if not Perth, Brisbane is friendly, laidback and tattoos are now the norm) Gold Coast is very accepting of tatts but work is harder to find & its not as laid back as Bris, but you do feel like your on holiday every day. If you want to go smaller than a city, Byron Bay in Northen NSW 1 hour south of the Gold Coast, is amazing! almost 6 years ago
