I am studying abroad in Sydney and am curious what is a good amount of money to go down with (besides the program fees) so that I can have an enjoyable experience and not be severely limited by money.

If you're planning on eating out and shopping a lot, you're going to want to bring quite a bit because it gets pretty expensive. You can get cheap souvenirs at Paddy's market and find relatively good deals for a student budget. I probably used at least 200 or 300 AUD a month, not including traveling expenses/ flying to other places. almost 7 years ago

Sydney is a very expensive city to live in and even as a student I would suggest you budget for a daily allowance of $50 food only.

Travel expenses can be approx $50/week. You can buy an unlimited bus/train/ferry ticket for $41 if you plan on staying in the city area.

Entertainment is where you'll get stung - alcohol is expensive, as are the movies and most tourists spots. almost 7 years ago
