I want to visit somewhere in South America for my 50th birthday but don't want to do too much land travel when I get there. Where is a good place to base myself?

yes you will love Buenos Aires. You will get the whole Argentina Experience. Shopping, Restrauants, Markets. Food is great!

You will be able to do day trips down to the beach or you could fly up to Igazu Falls.

Buenos Aires is a great city, but a palce ot itself, very different from the rest of Argentina. If you like city life, BA is a definite YES. Place yourself in a neighbourhood called Palermo Soho or palermo Hollywood, close by. Now if you want something more authentic, choose either Cordoba or Salta in the country's NW. over 11 years ago

Sure! BsAs is very beautiful, people are nice and there are a lot of things to do. I've been there last december for the second time and one of the most interesting thing that I've done was visit Zanjon de Granados (http://www.elzanjon.com.ar/). It's a very exclusive place to go. Almost nobady knows it. over 11 years ago

As a place to base yourself, definitely. There are so many things to do and see: food, history, music, walks (be careful), there are parts of the city where I felt like I was in a movie about Paris in the 1920s..... I don't think you can bet bored in BsAs. about 11 years ago

Buenos Aires doesn't represent the whole country. If you want to experience the real Argentina you should go more county side. I suggest Mendoza, Bariloche, Salta, Cordoba, Iguazu as part of your tour. over 9 years ago

Agree with betoarg2000. BA is very different from the rest of the country. Good place to start off but you only need few days. over 9 years ago

I agree that all Argentina is beautiful, specially from a Natural beauty point of view. Anyhow BA is one of the most facinating cities in the world, a bit bohemic and crazy sometimes. On the other hand is not like Mexico or Sao Paolo that are far too big about 9 years ago

Bs As is becoming the Disney Land of Argentina, there are many expats now living there ad it often feels very European and is therefore ver different to the rest of the country. For a true experiance try the Northern parts Salta, La Rioja or my current home San Juan (the best wine and friendlist people in Agentina) almost 9 years ago
