I'm looking for a new backpack, that means I never need to check in luggage! I'm planning an extended trip, so has to be the maximum I can take on as a carry-on. BUT... my back is rubbish and so far I've only found certain 'womens' backpacks comfortable, so preferable a 'womans' bag is needed.
Hi Nat! I can tell you a backpack is a personal preference, but I would say no larger than 35 L if you want it to remain a carry-on – but to be 100% safe on that, 30 L is best (mainly because budget airlines not only care about size, but also weight). I'm using a Mammut 35L women's bag that has adjustable straps between xs and medium sizes, and it's working great. Pockets, pockets and more pockets are what you need along with packing cubes (I'm using the Eagle Creek compression ones). I highly recommend you try some on at your local store and fill it with 25-30lbs of weight to see how it feels.
After 6 months on the road, I haven't had an issues yet with carrying mine on, even though it's 11kg and airlines usually restrict you to 7kg. Lastly, don't overpack with the fear of not finding something. Every local pharmacy or even airport through S. América and Asia have had everything I've needed and clothes are so cheap. Hope this helps. over 1 year ago
