    The Congo has the least developed road infrastructure of any African nation, just 35km of paved road per 1 million inhabitants. Botswana has 3427 km (thanks Wikipedia).
    Rivers and other waterways form the backbone of the Congo's transport system. Although the Chinese lent them $5 billion in 2007 to build a couple of national highways linking the sea ports and Kinshasa with (you guessed it) the mineral-rich Katanga province (which does not have access to river transport).
    I don't think we're going to see strip malls and parking lots anytime soon.
    I have a good friend who was in that part of the world last year... I'll contact him to see if he'll contribute to this thread.
