Does anyone know of an airline offering cheap return flights from South Africa to Bangkok?

Try to search www.kayak.com. I don't know when you want to travel, but from my search in Aug i get Etihad Airways, Ethiopian Air and Emirates as the cheapest. almost 10 years ago

I am in Penang for 2 weeks. Can anyone suggest some of the best sites to see or other islands worth visiting around the area?

Go up to Penang Hill for a nice view of Georgetown, and visit some of the colonial places (if you are interested in that). There is also a snaketemple, butterflypark, botanical gardens (tropical-fruit farm) and a big Buddhist temple (Kek Lok Si). If you like golfing make sure you visit one of the courses on the island. Grab a few beers, and be sure to eat lots of food. Try Mustafas for Indian food (think it is on Lebuh Chulia street). For beachlife head over to the northern coast (where you find most of the resorts). The westcoast of Malaysia is not good for snorkeling/diving, but you can still swim. Even better (if you have time) - take the boat over to Langkawi. Arrange hotel/hostel when you get to the jetty at Langkawi, and relax on the beaches there. Check out the sky-bridge (it had not opened last time I was there, but it looks cool): http://www.langkawi-beaches.com/langkawi-sky-bridge.html almost 11 years ago

What is the best (safest, easiest, most pleasant) area of Rome to stay in mid-range accommodation? Where should you avoid?

Google around for appartment rentals in/around Trastevere. Nice neighbourhood with lots of restaurants and medieval houses. We found that appartments were cheaper compared to (decent looking) hotels. Not to far from Colloseum/Forum, and we walked over there a few times. Or just get a sighseeing busspass to get around to the most famous places - stops just a few minutes walk away from Trastevere. almost 11 years ago

    Palau Lang Tengah or Redang?

Thanks velvetescape I noticed on your blog that you stayed at D'Coconut Lagoon. From browsing the web it looks like that is the best hotel on the island. I know you liked the cold bear they served, but how did you find the place part from that? Rooms, food..etc. We are 5 (maybe 6) in our group, and 800 (less after bargaining) is not that bad when you save a trip to the mainland, taxi and then another boat. almost 11 years ago

    Best place to scuba dive?

I have also heard good things about Sabah, but never been able to visit there. If you are unable to go there (most visitors stay on peninsula) there are still few spots to jump in. For diving you should stay away from the west coast if you want clear water. On the east coast you have lots of places to choose from. Perhentian, Redang and Pulau Lang Tengah are all close togheter, and all marine parks. All three of them offer good spots for diving, and have many operators. They offer a range of options for you to choose from - from snorkling to night dives. almost 11 years ago
