If you ask for safety, I can answer that both Medan and Bandung are safe for you to come. But if you ask for preference in terms of the easiness or accessibility, then Bandung is a bit more convenience for you to travel alone. I am not saying that Medan is not an easy place, but in Bandung you can find more options to find public transports. Puasa / fasting month usually has nothing to do with public transportation, especially for the last week of Puasa (Lebaran / Eid Mubarak). It is like Christmas in western. almost 7 years ago
I am going to Jakarta in December - need recommendations where to visit within a few hours of the city with 1-2 days to work with.
For outdoor and nature visit, Pulau Seribu (Thousand Island) is the best choice. It offers great visibility sea for snorkeling & diving. For a blend with people and culture of Indonesia, you can pick Bandung as your destination. Try to spend 1 night at Lembang and 1 night at Bandung, but I strongly suggest not to stay there during weekends since people from Jakarta will make traffic jams in Bandung. For a shorter trip, go to Bogor/Puncak instead. Puncak offers good atmosphere, while Bogor offers fresh air as well as culinary experience (Chinese food, Sundanese food, and Western Food). almost 7 years ago
Pondok Indah is safe for expatriate, and there is Jakarta International School in Pondok Indah for the kids. Generally speaking, Jakarta is safe anyway... :) almost 7 years ago
There are several ways for you to reach Krakatoa: 1. From Jakarta to Carita / Anyer, then take speedboat. You can spend the night at hotels in Carita / Anyer, about 3 hour by car from Jakarta. 2. From Jakarta to Tanjung Lesung, more private & secluded beach resort about 4-5 hours from Jakarta then take speedboat to Krakatoa. 3. The most expensive option for you is to take a yacht from Jakarta (Ancol marina) and sail to Krakatoa directly from there. almost 7 years ago
