Generally speaking Mallorca is a very safe place for tourists. Like anywhere else in the world occasional problems occur, but these are rare. Petty theft and `pickpòckets are the main problems but are mainly isolated occurrences. In daylight there are no streets on the island I would not walk, and at nights normal care, i.e. avoiding dark backstreets particularly in Palma, keeping handbags tightly held and general care should see you alright. Avoid the flower sellers near the cathedral in Palma, they are pickpockets. Come to Mallorca it really is a very safe place about 9 years ago
Where's a beautiful, quiet place to go in spain in July that is affordable and isn't overrun with tourists (ideally coastal)?
Depends on what you mean by "overrun". You will not find a nice beach in Spain (or virtually anywhere else in the world) that doesn't encourage tourism to some extent. The town where I live, Colonia Sant Jordi in south-east Mallorca, has tourism, but in a quiet way. It also has the best beaches on the island. over 11 years ago
Heading to Mallorca Spain for 8 days to bike and do some hiking. Any suggestions for activities or sites I should not miss?
Depends on how serious your biking is. Lluch Monastery is a must, but is situated in the mountain area, a very serious bike ride. Various markets take place, Inca on Thursdays is the most famous and largest. Anythng else depends mainly on your personal likes. The caves at Drach are a good choice, and the varous beaches around the island, Es Trenc, in the south east is very popular. Various small fishng villages around the island are full of charm. over 8 years ago
