Where is the best area to stay in dubrovnik for sights and nightlife?

I agree. You should stay in or close to the Old Town. Lapad is geared more toward families and resort life. We stayed in the Sesame Inn last summer, it's a short walk from the city walls so you can sleep quietly yet are in the midst of everything. http://www.sesame.hr/inn.html They have a delicious restaurant as well. You could also consider Budva in Montenegro, which is also a very ancient city but a lot less over-touristed. Dubrovnik can get a little crazy. It's not too far of a drive from Dubrovnik. My father is from Montenegro and I love that little country :) almost 10 years ago

What sights can you recommend to see in one weekend?

I agree: Prado is a great must see! And depending on the weather Retiro is gorgeous, take a boat on the lake. And for shopping: Xanadu! And go make a Royal Palace tour! Here's some more info: http://ob.gd/spain/madrid/ about 10 years ago

    Scenic lookouts in San Fran?

If you were thinking indoors, then the Starlight Room at Union Square has nice views, the Restaurant on top of the Hilton close to Union Square, and the Carnelian Room, in the Bank of America building. Also, there are some skyscrapers in the Financial District that allow rooftop access and the views can be pretty amazing. Also views from the hills of Pacific Heights can be pretty stunning! over 10 years ago
