will it be safe to travel to turkey this year?

As Phil stated, Turkey has a parliamentary democracy and the next elections will take place in June 2011-this year. Currently, the country is very much stable in terms of security and there is no demand of protests from the people. Also, the current political party is the highest candidate for winning the elections with no coalitions. Thus, the economy or the political situation will be more stable. And to point out one thing, Turkey is the only different in terms of regime/rule and politically stable country in the region. Yet again, as Phil stated above, there is no "safe" place or country. Do a research on places you want to travel on the net. Ask here for specific locations, get information and do your planning accordingly. over 8 years ago

Any tips for Spain? I will be going to Madrid and Barcelona for about 9 days then Paris for 2. Suggested places or activies?

We stayed 6 days in Madrid for my wife's workshop in the first week of April. I was free all the days and had the chance to plan our daily trips on myself. Here are my suggestions (not in importance order): . Santiago Bernabeu Stadium . Plaza de Espana . Temple of Debod (sunset) . Sabatini Gardens . Plaza de Oriente . Plaza San Miguel . Plaza Mayor (have a drink and see the interesting costumed people) . Eat churros in San Gines (suggested and one of the best churros) [Chocolateria San Gines] . Puerta del Sol (bear icon + zero point) . Calle Carmen Street . Gran Via (walk on this nice boulevard) . Have frozen yogurt in the shop that is opposite of Plaza de Espana&Gran Via . Plaza de Cibeles . Puerta del Alcala . Park del Retiro . See Colomb statue next Colon station . Have a walk in Paseo del Prado . Prado Museum . Reina Museum (+see the top of the building) . Have a drink and calamares in El Brillante (next to Reina Museum) . See and have a dinner in the restaurants next to Plaza Santa Ana I tried to group these places so that you can walk from one to another. But I suggest you to check these places on Google Maps. If you have a problem to find them, let me know and I can send you the exact location. Also I have some restaurants I can suggest if you like and interested in food and like eating :) Let me know if you need specific details about anything related to Madrid ;) Have a nice journey. Any tips for Spain? I will be going to Madrid and Barcelona for about 9 days then Paris for 2. Suggested places or activies?

One more important point about Madrid is TOLEDO. Toledo is only 20 minutes from Madrid by speed-trains (called RENFE). You can also buy a half day or full-day trip. Full day trips include dinner. Halfday trips are about 40-50 Euros as well as I remember. We planned our own trip. I checked all the places to see in Toledo on my smartphone using Google Maps and GPS. Then we bought our round-trip speed train tickets online from RENFE. We had a full day trip in Toledo. Saw all the places. Had a coffee. Took the city tour sigthseeing by bus. However, instead of taking the tour bus from the train station, I would suggest you to go to the center of the old town buy buses. And then take the small tour train for city outer tour. This is cheaper and more enjoyable. All the old city walking (slow) tour takes at most 2 hours :) And I absolutely suggest you to go to Toledo to see this small city - old town if you like history. Let me know if you need suggestions and details about Toledo, too. Enjoy your trip, sas over 6 years ago

    Moving to Izmir

Some of the Aegean cuisine has already many vegeterian type food. I do not think you will have difficulty in finding vegeterian food. In Turkey, it might be a little bit difficult to find restarants that are serving only vegeterian food. Yet, you can find vegeterian food nearly in all restaurants. about 8 years ago

Petite (5ft), Asian female traveling solo for the first time. I'm thinking of visiting Istanbul and nearby areas in mid Sep. Is it safe?

There are so many places to see in Istanbul. But first, Istanbul is a safe place. Yet of course as in every big and popular city, you should be careful since there are some places that cannot be safe for a person. This is the same in NY, London, Tokyo etc. The same goes for Istanbul. Here are my suggestions: Take the boat trip on the Bosphorus. You will see many historical places and also it is relaxing. Take care against the wind on the boat. You already have seen Sultanahmet etc. You can see Taksim Beyoglu Istiklal Caddesi, the old tunnel, Galata Tower, Eminonu Kapali Carsi, Mısır Çarşısı, Ortakoy, Yerebatan Sarnıcı, Aya İrini, Topkapi Museum, Pierre Loti, Dikilitaş, Çemberlitaş, Rumeli Hisarı, Yıldız Sarayı & Parki, Kiz Kulesi (Anatolian Side). You can also see the Prince Islands and have a phaeton trip in Buyukada (biggest Island). Sile, Agva are some places where you can have see view, fish food, and natural sightseeings. Other than places in Istanbul, you can have a trip to Pamukkale (in Denizli city), and Cappadocia/Urgup. Here is a list of feautred destinations: http://www.goturkey.com/turkiye.php?content=pdestinations&lng=en You can write for detailed information.. Have a nice trip... about 7 years ago
