After Malaria, is there anything else I should consider taking medicine for, or taking with me?

While i was away in Africa a friend got Malaria. It hit him really fast and within 2 hours he could hardly walk. He got taken to the nearest hospital in Tanzania and was put on a IV drip for 2 days. After that he was given some medication for the doctor at the hospital to control the Malaria. To try and avoid Malaria i took my tablets as directed by my Doctor but i also took a massive bottle of RID which is a mosquito replant. I still got bitten but no where near the girl i was sharing my tent with who didn't use the replant. Malaria tablets do stop working if you have been taking them for a long time. Another girl who i was away with lived in Tanzania for 8 months and had malaria twice as the tablets stoped taking effect. I guess just be sensible and put mosquito replant as much as possible. Always carry a roll on one with you to reapply if out in the bush. If you are in hotels sleep under the mosquito nets and tuck them under your mattress and if you are in a tent like i was make sure the zips are always zipped up tight (they will still manage to get in to). Have fun! over 10 years ago

It is legal to smoke dope in the Netherlands?

Yeah the "Coffee Shops" are a must go. Try the "Space Cakes" and wash it down with a chocolate milkshake and you will be in heaven! There are some pubs where the bottom level is only joints, the 2 level is alcohol and joints and the top level is a restaurant. From just walking in to the place you will get high. Just remember not to take anything out of the country. "What you do in Amsterdam, stays in Amsterdam" is a good way to put it. Just be careful of what you do and do not buy anything off anyone in the streets there are undercover police working the streets. Enjoy - it is a excellent eye opener that's for sure! over 10 years ago

I am looking to travel to the South East Aisa region later in the year, where specifically should I go?

i would recommend going to Phi Phi Island for either a day trip or to stay there for a while. It has amazing snorkelling places and the lime stone cliffs are beautiful. There are heaps of little places to wonder around. Every corner there is something different and it is great to go there and support everyone as they were worst effected by the tsunami There are so many different little place to go to while in Thailand. We also went to Khoa Lak. This was a really nice place before tsunami cleared most of the vegetation. It is still worth going just for the support of the locals. Phuket is very busy and almost everyone there talks excellent English. Been Australian they will try and talk the Australia lingo to you, quite funny... You will get people trying to talk Australian to you so you will go in to their shop. James Bond Island day trip is also a good highlight you can also arrange to have lunch and do cave cannoning as well on the day trip to James Bond Island. Also the elephant safaris are worth while as well. There is also a show called Fantsea which is worth seeing while you are in Phuket. Just a few ideas to think about. Enjoy the planning! over 10 years ago

    Best bushwalking destinations?

I would highly recommend a walk to Cape Roual and Shipsterns Bluff down Port Arthur way. It is a must see and great photo opportunities along the way. Shipsterns Bluff is a 5 hour return walk and cape Roual is about the same from memory. Otherwise the overland track at Wineglass bay is a nice one either the day track or the overnight…. Many beautiful place to go bushwalking around Tasmania! Enjoy. over 10 years ago

Which is the best time to visit LA?

August / September are good months, we spent a while in Los Angeles in August and the start of September. The weather was fantastic - not to hot to do things - just beautiful. over 10 years ago

What to do and see in Amsterdam in a weekend stay?

One of the best things is the Canal Cruise along the Canals in Amsterdam. Getting to see everyone’s reaction to all the amazing buildings lit up at night and a few drinks along the way always helps… Red light district is a must do and possibly a sex show as well. It may sound disgusting but i guess that is what Amsterdam is all about. And i must say check out some of the pubs or "coffee shops" they are a definite must see while you are in Amsterdam... And always remember to give way to the bike riders otherwise they will not knock you out as they have right of way! over 10 years ago

What are the best places to go in Switzerland or close by?

I would highly recommend going to Lucerne. It is one of the most beautiful places i have ever travelled to. There are plenty of little shops tucked away over the township. Also a trip to Mt Titlis is also highly recommended. Unfortunately the day we went there was a blizzard so we were unable to do the activities but there are many skiing, snowboarding, it is amazing when you are up there. You can take a day trip on a coach from Zurich to Mt Titlis. Go to http://www.viator.com/ and type in Switzerland. Just down from the entrance to Mt Titlis is a little township that is worth having a walk around. over 10 years ago

What is cell phone and internet access like in Thailand?

We went to Thailand over christmas in 2007-2008. When we arrived we had mobile phone coverage for 2 hours then we didn't get a bar after that. We were with Vodafone and had no coverage till we got home. As for internet access you can find many internet cafes all around the place. If we thought about it while we were over there we would have brought a thailand sim and used that to call back home. over 10 years ago
