Traveling to hong kong soon. I have a 3 g iPad. Also an android phone, and a portable 3 g router myfi. Does anyone know the telecom options?

The free wifi at McDonald's is usually limited to 20 minutes (Y5ZONE) and that's probably not enough if you rely on it as your sole connection. I would suggest you to get a local SIM card from CSL or PCCW, join a plan for around HK$ 200 per month for 5GB data. It should be pretty much enough if you use it for Whatsapp. If you have an Android phone, I would suggest you to buy a SIM for your Android only, then use it as a wifi hotspot instead of using myFi. And no ID card is required to buy a SIM card, pretty straightforward, it should be easy to spot a shop in town. Try to avoid Smartone, as their plan is only good for long-term users. almost 9 years ago

Anyone ever been to Tibet? What tips can you share about this amazing place?

It's usually colder in December, but daytime is warm, and you get less raining (usually no snowing in Lhasa downtown). You will probably feel very cold at night, ask the hotel to give you some electric warm blankets, they can be very useful. about 9 years ago

Going to Tibet in Feb 2012

If you have nine days, I would suggest you to stay a few days in Lhasa, then visit Gyantse, Shigatse, Sakya, Tingri, make a day trip to Everest Base Camp and back to Tingri (or stay in EBC if you don't mind doing so...), then head back to Lhasa, it's a total of 9 days (from 18 Feb to 26 Feb). Yes we do organize tours, but I think it may be better if you email me (you can find our contact on our website), I think it may be against the rule here in this forum to promote your business... about 9 years ago

I'm thinking to spen my Christmas Holiday in Lhasa, any suggestion?

Christmas is a great time because you will see lots of pilgrims from other parts of Tibet, it's usually too cold at the nomad area and they came to Lhasa for pilgrimage. Day time is usually quite warm, lesser raining, better chance to see the Everest (if you go there), less tourists, etc. You will probably see a different image of Tibet if you come in the winter time. about 9 years ago

I am going to be in Hong Kong for 2 days, shopping being my priority, which hotel in the shopping area is a budget hotel?

YMCA is really very very expensive in Hong Kong, I wouldn't suggest budget travelers to stay there. If you don't mind the shabby houses, try the Chungking Mansion, it's probably the cheaper of the cheapest. Try this one as well, it's slightly better and I have a few friends who stayed there, and they liked it. http://www.cosmicguesthouse.com/ about 9 years ago

i'm bringing my iPad to Hong Kong. What is recommended prepaid phone carrier?

There are many different carriers in Hong Kong, but for prepaid card, you really don't have many choices. Try the Peoples (also known as China Mobile now), http://www.peoples.com.hk/p_prepaid_supertalk_en.jsp For any prepaid card, pay around HK$ 78 for a 30-day unlimited use of GPRS (a bit slow but acceptable). You can also use Wifi of Peoples for free (sometimes available at a few McDonald's). about 9 years ago
