is there anything to do in perth?
Greg - loads to do especially if you like wine ! Take a trip out to the Swan Valley (40 mins out of Perth CBD) where you will find scores of wineries, most of them excellent quality, and a growing number providing New Oz cuisine. It's also a great spot to just unwind with good scenery. You should also sample down south in Margaret River, same thing only bigger, better and with the famous surf beaches - it's really world class. Perth itself has Kings Park which warrants a whole day of walking, if you're into all that, through the numerous tracks plus there are great views of the City, Swan river and surrounds. Try a trip down Stirling Hwy to Cottesloe and the beach for some fish and chips to watch the sun setting over the Indian Ocean - Perthites particularly like this one because it's so good (before of after a beer at one of the local pubs) ! over 11 years ago

Are there any good winter festivals or events or such around July?
Firstly, remember it's cool/cold in Perth in July BUT there is still loads to see and do. Take a walk on Cottesloe Beach (it'll probably be sunny) and experience the waves and great sand, try a day trip to Rotto when it'll be less busy than usual. The bays are quite fantastic and special, a bit like the Greek Islands (yes I know, but it's true) Check out kings Park in the winter - it's really neat in the rain ! Above all, don't sit in your hotel room if it's cool, get out there and experience Perth's environs - look at the visitors guide and pick something different ! over 11 years ago

Can you suggest nice, well located accommodation for a 2 night stopover?
Agree with an0 - try Arabian Park Hotel. It's well located next to the 'museum' which is interesting in itself. however, try walking a few metres to the waterfront and experience what must be the original Dubai waterfront with dhows discharging or taking on cargo as they did many years ago. Most will be going across the water to Iran and Bangladesh which is interesting. A taste of the real Middle East - troubles or not, trade still goes on as it did years ago. over 11 years ago
