is it possible to cycle through india safely? has any one else cycled through asia?

Cycling within a city is one thing, cycling from city to city is a whole different ball game. We just spent 6 weeks there and my parents are from India. The roads between cities aren't great, train and bus travel is used mostly for long distance travel. Some dirt roads, very rural. Not my recommendation to bike around but I'm not that adventurous. However, safety wise, like any developing country you have to be smart, watch your stuff and be wary of who you to talk. Most people are genuine but a small few cause trouble. We felt very safe during our time there, but took the necessary precautions over 8 years ago

I'm in USA october. I have iPhone and iPad. What's the best pre paid for calls and downloads. Vicki

Verizon and AT&T are the choices for iPad I think. I've used AT&T when in the US before. In Sept. we paid $25 for 2gb of data. Both companies have similar price points. You can probably find the prices on their websites. Data isn't as cheap in North America as it should, or could, be. over 8 years ago

Small hotel, B&B or boutique hotel in Luang Prabang

Really depends on your budget too. Tonnes of places along the waterfront ranging from $10 to $60 a night. We found a place by the Mekong River, just around the corner from the night market, for about $12. It wasn't anything fancy but we were traveling for 8 months so budget was a priority. over 8 years ago

Internet cafes in or near Joburg airport?

Thanks Thea for the response. For anyone who reads this later, Telkom does have an internet cafe in the arrivals section of the airport. They charge R30 for 30 minutes. I paid R10 for 60 minutes in Nelspruit and R5 for 60 minutes in Pretoria. But to make matters worse, they don't have MS Office, Skype or even free Adobe Reader to view PDFs. I was actually willing to pay for 4 hours today to do work as I wanted to use Excel and don't have my laptop. over 8 years ago

Aussie girl travelling europe for 6 months. What is the best way to keep my cash? any advice on cash passports vs normal MasterCard etc...?

We are Canadian so can only share our experience but when we travel overseas we use cash more often than credit card as credit cards will not give you the best exchange. We have an account at our bank that lets us withdraw from any ATM without any fees on our side. Sometimes the local ATM in the country we are in will have fees, but very minimal over 8 years ago

Aussie girl going to Europe for 6 months. Can I get a sim for use in my Aussie bought iPhone 4? What is my best option?

You need to make sure your iPhone is unlocked. If it is, then you can use it with a sim anywhere in the world. I think Aussie uses gsm network and so does Europe. If you bought your phone through a cell phone provider like Vodafone, etc. then check with them if it is unlocked. Often when you buy from the cell companies, the phone is locked to their network only. over 8 years ago
