Newbie to Paris - which area should I stay?

I would definitely recommend staying away from the Montmarte area, as it is quite seedy. The opera area or the Latin quarter are my two favourites, there are many many small hotels in Paris, so you won't be stuck for choice. Hopefully that shall help for a start. about 10 years ago

What can one do in Phuket for 17 days ?

I'd recommend going to Phi Phi Island from Phuket for atleast a week of that time. Don't bother sorting out accommodation though, when you get off the ferry there is places that can sort your accommodation to what you are willing to pay. Bangla rd is the most popular place to go drinking @ Patong beach with about 300 bars in one street. over 9 years ago

Is it easy enough to travel by hire car through Switzerland and Austria in June-July?

The Gotthard Tunnel is the longest tunnel in the world and is the only one you should watch out for. They only allow a certain number of cars through at a time and there can be long waits. I would add on a couple of hours to your journey at that part if you are driving from Switzerland to Italy, apart from that. No dramas! about 10 years ago

What are the best things to see/do in and around Darwin?

In Kakadu Jim Jim Falls are fantastic, if you can get in there? Litchfield national park is great too, I would check out some of the Adventure Tours tours as they are fantastic. The best hostel in Darwin by far is the Mellaluca on Mitchell, a pool bar is pretty damn cool. It all depends on what you want to do. almost 10 years ago

Beginner skier and medium snowboarder - where is a fun, comfy, reasonably (for snow) chalet or hotel?

Most places in the Tirol region are best for the both Beginners and Intermediates, there are a lot of places to stay, St Anton is great, but for beginners not so great. I think Kitzbhuel would be a better mountain to start on. Does that help? over 9 years ago

What's the best way for Australian citizens to find visa information for living/working in the UK?

http://bia.homeoffice.gov.uk/workingintheuk/tier5/youthmobilityscheme/ http://ukinaustralia.fco.gov.uk/en/visas/categories1 They have recently changed their site, it doesn't make it any easier, actually probably makes it more difficult to understand, but getting the old WHV (Working holiday Visa) now called the YMS(Youth Mobility Scheme). about 10 years ago

I'll be in Thailand for 2 weeks in Dec. Bangkok for first week. What should I do for the next week? I need to get back to Bangkok by the end

There are so many options within Thailand, and they have heaps of cheap flights internally. Phuket Koh Samui Chang Mai These places are a fantastic start. Chang mai for jungle treks, jungle life (its the 2nd biggest city in Thailand) you can relax with Elephants etc. Koh Samui, lovely Island Phuket, Tourist area, still quite good. My choice would be Koh Samui or Chang Mai, however from Bangkok be sure to check out the tiger temple, its one of the best attractions to see. about 10 years ago

Where are good, cheap places to eat?

The Touristico Menu's are rippoffs. If you search around and find the smaller bars/resturants they are normally cheaper and better. There is a fantastic Pizza place near the Rialto Bridge, its on the San Marco side of the bridge to the left if walking towards San Marco square. €4 for a massive slice of pizza. about 10 years ago
