what is the status at Egypt today? Is it still safe to go? We are scheduled to fly into Luxor on the 12th of June.

I totally agree with Phil just be a little cautious and every thing will turn fine. but specially on the 17th of June be more careful because of the second round of the presidential elections, as some might protest just ask the locals or the front desk of your hotel and they will direct you what best to do and the safest places to go avoiding any demonstrations. over 8 years ago

Do I need to book the Abela sleeper train to Luxor in advance?

It is preferable to book it in advance specialy in peak and holiday periods. If you are traveling in winter season September to end of April minimum of one month advanced reservation is preferable. During Christmas and New Year and Easter earlier reservation is highly recomended. In summer season May to end of August most of the time there is availability. www.egyptholidaysdirectory.com about 10 years ago
