Best combo of beaches and history in France?

Hi About two hours north of Barcelona are a few villages in the south of france that are well known for their beauty, history, art museums and also have some great diving and snorkelling routes underwater as there is a huge marine reserve there. we have a cottage in collioure but this is now quite expensive so i would suggest you stay in camping (they are hi quality) in Argeles or in cheaper accommodation there or alternatively stay further south in Banyuls which is where the underwater snorkelling route is located - plus a great marine aquarium. if you visit our webiste at www.collioure.com.au you will find loads of ideas for days trips in the area that will cover all your needs. we snorkel just with a face mask in any of the villages and you see heaps of marine life. hope this helps - i promise you this area of the Med is sensational. all the best L about 10 years ago

i want to look at buying a run down place in the south of france, can anyone tell me a good location, cheap?

Hi Mick We bought a place in the south of france about three years ago and its been fantastic. Its on the mediterrannean and the village is called Collioure. I would recommend it to anyone. Sensational. Prices there are now quite expensive however there are lots of great villages about 10 mns inland such as sorede, laroque etc that are cheaper but you are still close to everything - 10 mins to coast, 20 mins to spanish border, 2 hours to barcelona, 2 hours north to toulouse or pont du gard bridge, arles or avignon and 2 hours in winter to pyrenees for skiing. For us it has the lot. you can see our village via our site at www.collioure.com.au there is a great english speaking real estate agent in the village - agence paradise in the firm and he knows a lot about the area and places. hope this info helps. 5 days to spare between Montpellier and Athens, what to do?

Hi Danielle I am biased in my reply to you as we have a cottage in this village - but all that aside - if I had five days outside Montpellier this is where I would go! it is a small unspoilt fishing village on the Mediterranean close to the Spanish border called Collioure and its absolutely sensational with loads to do. It is only about one hour by train from Montpellier. You change trains at Perpignan to the smaller regional lines to Collioure. If you check out our site at www.collioure.com.au and send me an email I will send you our activities sheet so you can see all there is to do. Its a fascinating and visually spectacular village as its catalan - a bit french, a bit spanish and also is famous for its art by Matisse and Derain. Hope this info helps your plans. By the way Ryanair has a hub for cheap flights out of Girona which is an hour south of Collioure (via frogbus.com) so this would be a great route to take, to get you to Athens. All the very best with your holiday plans. Collioure. about 10 years ago
