Here are a few suggestions in Peninsular Malaysia. The Chiling Waterfalls are a nice outing from KL as well! http://chasingplaces.com/4-must-see-tourist-attractions-in-peninsular-malaysia/ about 7 years ago
After travelling through the Philippines on multiple occasions I would definitely say that the Bacuit Archipelago off of El Nido does live up to the hype. Without question one of the nicest spots in South East Asia. El Nido has developed a lot over the last 2 or 3 years though..so not sure if the growth will be sustainable. Siquijor Island is a nice choice as well, but not very swimmable in comparison. If you stay on the western side of the island there are awesome sunsets http://chasingplaces.com/3-of-the-most-stunning-beach-sunsets-in-south-east-asia/ about 7 years ago
The Philippines does have some petty crime issues, but if you are observant and alert in Manila that's a bonus. Dress down if possible to avoid snatch thieves eye jewelry and so forth. With some common sense you should be alright. about 7 years ago
