best area to stay for 3 days?

I stayed at Arabian Courtyard Hotel, near Dubai Creek and right across the road from the Dubai museum. I found the Hotel great and good value for money, fantastic Indian Restaurant, and English Style Bar (bars are few and far between in Dubai). Ideal location for Silk Market (100 yards) and Gold and Spice Markets, a ferry boat ride across the Creek, all worth seeing. This part of Dubai is the most interesting in my opinion and Dubai Creek boat tour is worth doing. Desert BBQ and 4 wheel drive trip is also worth doing. This is not the best position if you want Beaches and Shopping Centres, but taxis are relatively cheap to take you to the major sights and Centres. Hop-on, Hop-off bus can be a pain especially on hot days, no air-con, takes you round the houses, better to pay a bit extra and go where you want by Taxi. 3 days is about right for Dubai, everyone I met was very friendly. almost 10 years ago

Good bars for afterwork drinks in CBD?

The Arthouse, Pitt Street. Perfect after work drinks venue, nice vibe, live music later. Easy walk both Town Hall and Wynyard. about 10 years ago

Does anyone know of a good place to go for a winter get away with kids under 2 yrs. Was thinking Port Douglas. Any suggestions for accom?

Port Douglas is a fantastic getaway spot, with or without kids, heaps to do and it is just such a pleasant laid back town. I can highly recommend Mantra Portsea for accommodation. I stayed there last year and thought the accommodation was great, spacious and clean. Very pleasant pool and surroundings, ideal for kids. Bus outside door, or easy 15 min flat walk into Port Douglas. Magnificent Beach 2 mins outside back door. about 10 years ago
