Any suggestions on which tour group is the best. I would go on my own but I am a 24 year old woman travelling solo.
Hi there If you can get there yourself, then Khongor Guesthouse and UB Guesthouse are the leading budget tour operators there. I love Toroo and Degi at the Khongor Guesthouse - I have been 5 times and always stay with them. Their Guesthouse is a basic youth hostel and they run a huge variety of 'tours'. Email them at firstname.lastname@example.org The trips are by minivan or Russian van and fairly flexible. I'd recommend a nomad stay. A week isn't a long time as there are huge distances to cover. You could go to Terkin Tsagaan Nuur (White Lake) and Karakorum, maybe a little of the Gobi which will give you a flavour of steppe, lakeland, monastery/ancient city and desert). If you had 10 days, you could go into the Gobi proper or go to Hovsgol. Happy adventures! over 9 years ago
For sure, it's definitely worth the money, but only if you have time to see the sites. It is a stunning city and you need at least a day to go around the Hermitage museum and Peterhof/Peter's Palace (you take a boat there) which is Peter the Great's version of Versailles. There is plenty more to see besides these things (churches, museums, canals) and it is quite unique. If you are hard on budget, but not time, you can take the overnight hard sleeper to St Petersburg and stay in a youth hostel there. about 9 years ago
