Hi Jen, I just stayed at the Jail hostel in Ottawa which was a cool experience - definitely recommend it. Also heard of an aerial park in Gatineau (short drive from Ottawa) where you do this cool adventure course in trees, zip-lining etc. I didn't end up going to it but will on my way back there in mid-Sept. The website is campfortune.com For Montreal, I agree with Roxy: St Denis & St Laurent in the Plateau are the best streets. Also nearby is the reknowned poutine place called La Banquise. Went to a cool bar/pub last night off St Laurent called Dieu du Ciel where they brew their own beer. Try the Hibiscus one! There's a sweet restaurant called O Noir in Montreal where you dine in pitch darkness. The waiters are blind as well, and if you go on a Sunday there's a live band (also blind). over 9 years ago
Hey Ali, I don't think safety would be an issue for you guys. I went to Tanzania in 2008 and didn't find any harrassment of any kind from men (go to Egypt and you'll find that on every corner!). It's more the poverty, pick pockets & beggars coming up to you in the street that you need to be aware of. over 9 years ago
I have a few days left in Sydney and was wondering if anyone had any advice on where to buy authentic Aboriginal art?
Just take a stroll around Circular Quay and the Rocks. Especially on the weekend with the Rocks markets on, you'll probably have the chance of meeting & buying off the artist. Otherwise there are numerous galleries (but with extortionate prices) over 9 years ago
