    Good restaurants in Hobart?

SMOLT is the tastiest food in Salamanca by far, ask for the specials for seasonal picks and if you are game, let the wait staff feed you. Just tell them if you don't like anything and they will feed your whole table with a series of plates you can share and they can wine match it for you. It's a real treat and bloody fantastic to be honest with you. Any of the wait staff are fantastic, but if you ask for Kif, he was amazing for my last meal. PICCOLO is run by a couple as equally passionate about food as Kif at Smolt. It's fantastic to get really good seasonal food cooked perfectly and presented well. This is the most popular little restaurant in Hobart at the moment and you will definitely need to book in advance. Well in advance if you are a table of 4 or more. But don't let this put you off, call them it's worth it. The wine list has a lot of great little wine and some brilliant Tassie choices that are a good value for their quality. Both these places offer brilliant food, great service and yet in a non-pretentious atmosphere that is welcoming and warming. I ALWAYS enjoy my time at these restaurants. about 11 years ago

What should a family do if they have just one day to explore Hobart and surrounds?

Definitely go up Mt Wellington, and then if you have kids, look at taking them to a wildlife park where they can see a Tassie Devil. Maybe Bonorong Park about 11 years ago
