We are going to Kathmandu & are wanting to know about trekking to Everest Basecamp. Can anyone help?

That time of about 15-17 days sounds about right. I also always book in advance as there are a few dodgy trekking companies in Thamel who will try to grab you (and maybe scam you), plus you can get everything organised for you through a pre-booked company, including the Lukla flight. I have used "Everest Trekking" twice and they are excellent. They are an Australian company based in Melbourne, and really look after their guides as well. almost 8 years ago

    Water purification in Nepal

I always take puritabs, but have never used them. I get the lodge to boil water each evening for me which they put into my Sigg bottle - it acts as a hot water bottle in my sleeping bag as well, then is cool enough to drink the next day. I have heard of the "steripens", but have never used them. Regarding water, do not even use the unsterilised water to brush your teeth, unless you want to risk visiting the toilet regularly for a few days! almost 8 years ago

Can anyone recommend a clean and safe hostel in Kathmandu, Nepal?

Nirvana Garden guesthouse in Thamel is very good. I have stayed here a few times now and been very happy with it. It is not right in the centre of Thamel, so not as noisy as some can be. over 7 years ago
