    Where to stay in Timor?

Hi Nelson, yes it can be challenging with accomodation in the districts (outside of Dili). Most of the accomodation is guest house style. There are hotels in Com and Baucau. Take a look at PDT runs a great site with business listings, including accomodation - http://timor.buildingmarkets.org/ Where are you looking at going? Also you should know what even if you book, it seems that it is very much first come first served! Cheers, Jason www.unofficialeasttimor.com about 8 years ago

Which mobile operator in Dili and do to activate roaming?

Hi Mario the mobile operator is Dili and Timor-Leste is Timor Telecom ( www.timortelecom.tp) Currently only one provider. To activate roaming you normally need to contact your phone provider before coming to Timor and ask if they have coverage. Alternatively you can easily buy a sim card after you arrive for about US$2 and the calls are much cheaper this way. Cheers Jason www.unofficialeasttimor.com about 8 years ago

Is it safe to take pre-schoolers to East Timor

Hi Olivia it looks like Phil has already provided you some great information. I have lived in East Timor for the last 2 years (I am an Australian) and wanted to share my thoughts that may help you. I agree very much with Phil that the biggest concern with bringing young children to East Timor is health related. However I would add that there is both an Australian Doctor and Portguaguse Doctor which can be accessed if you are willing to pay (cost around $80US per visit). Also being so close to Darwin (around 45 mins) makes it close for medical evacuations. The other thing is that there is more than ample opportunities to volunteer in Dili, while yes the big need is in the districts. Yes life here in East Timor is 'harder' than Western life, but its very doable. However I speak as someone without kids. Anyway hope this helps.
