Driving direction from San Francisco to Yosemite National Park

Consider entering the park from the south, especially if you are looking for a motel outside the park, reasonable gasoline, etc. you wont find any of that near to the park if you come from the west and Merced...just tiny El Portal. Must See...the view of the Sierra Mountain tops from Glacier Point. The view when you come out of the tunnel. Walk to a waterfall, like Bridal Veil (the Yosemite Falls usually are dry by August.) I loved walking around the grounds of Wawona Hotel, which is old and feels like you are going back in time. Some kind of ranger led activity, like the two hour bus tour of the valley highlights. Mariposa Grove. Go back away from the main drag in he valley and get by the river. Good, reasonably priced food is available at Degnans...for better prices than up at the Lodge dining room. Have you considered staying at Curry Village? The platform tents have beds and linens and a modest amount of electricity. We paid $110 a night last month, and were quite content. It was great to be in the park, rather than face a long drive in and out each day to an out of the park motel. Enjoy! It is just amazing. about 6 years ago

    Things to do in Maine

Get out enjoy the outdoors. Wherever you end up, have a lobster, kayak, hike, and camp. Portland has a lobster cruise which is fun and gets you on the water; it is called something like Lucky Lobster Catch. Acadia is a beautiful national park. Go up Mt Cadillac there. over 6 years ago

Driving from LA to SF, need suggestion for what route to take, where to stay, and must-see along the way and in SF, total 3-4 days. Thanks

Spend some time on the Coastal Highway. See Big Sur! Pfeiffer State Park has gorgeous redwoods and trails to hike. Eat at Nepenthe, gazing at the sea and mountains; make a reservation there if you can. FYI Hotels and motels around Monterey are ridiculously priced, so do some research before you go to save a pretty penny. I agree with a previous poster, make time for Yosemite...come in thru the South entrance, drive thru the tunnel and prepare to turn left at the tunnel exit. Park and take in an incredible view of Yosemite. over 6 years ago

Going to Portland Oregon have only 2 days what should I do/ see?

In the summer, go to the Rose Test Garden and take lots of photos in is beautiful place. Jake's for great seafood, and Powell's amazing bookstore. Street market by the river goes for blocks--I think it is only on Saturdays, so check. Lots of people line up for a loooong time for Voodoo Doughnuts. Get out of town and take. Driv along the Columbia River Gorge, then stop somewhere and take a hike to enjoy the amazing scenery. over 6 years ago
