Things to do in Maui? Any great shops, eateries, markets, nature must-see's? I'll be staying staying in West Maui for a week.

It's hard to go wrong in Maui but the main bit of advice I would give is don't restrict yourself to the Kannapali resort strip alone. All of the communities on the slopes of Haleakala (generally called "upcountry") are delightful. Kula, Makawao, Hookipa, etc. all are worth spending time in. Get kayaks and make your way along a scenic stretch of shoreline exploring pools and hidden coves that can't be reached in any other way. Any KAYAK shop can give advice on the best places to put in and guides are available if that's more your style. Do some snorkeling while you're at it or carry your boots and go for a hike across the point of land you land on then then cool off in the ocean on your return and paddle back to your starting point. Possibilities are endless! Try Saimin a tasty regional soup/noodle broth often sold even in the local Dairy Queen! Start every morning with a freshly sliced papaya or mango with lime juice squeezed on it and wash it all down with a nice cold glass of POG (papaya, orange and guava juice). Go horseback riding to a remote waterfall and picnic in the jungle. If you're feeling adventurous connect with one of the local hang gliding instructors for a tandem ride(David Darling is excellent and if he's not still teaching he would know who is).Enjoy! over 6 years ago

Where is the best places to fish in Maine?

The Belgrade Lakes are great fishing and one of the most delightful camps to stay in all of Maine is Castle Island Camp. They book up early but you never know when they'll have a cancellation. They have small classic cabins with screen doors right on the water and a small dining hall that serves three meals a day. Rental boats and motors are available along with fishing gear, etc. friendly people, good food, good fishing what's not to like!? over 6 years ago

I'm going to austin for the F1 race in November. What's a good hotel to stay at if I'm not renting a car?

The race track is south east of downtown Austin and if you are focused on the race itself rather than exploring downtown, I would stay in a clean modern hotel along the interstate in any of the communities nearby like , Buda,Kyle or San Marcos( all about 20 minutes at most from the Circuit of the Americas track). You'll beat much of the traffic coming from this direction instead of from Austin proper and you'll be near the small towns of Luling and Lockhart where all of the best Texas barbecue is to be found! :-) over 6 years ago

What's the best BBQ in Austin, TX?

It's ridiculous to stand in long boring lines for barbecue just because it's in or near downtown Austin. Take a pleasant 30 minute drive through the countryside and get the real thing with no lines at City Market in Luling or at either of Blacks, Chisholm Trail, Smitty's or Kreitz's barbecue joints in Lockhart(And you get to see the cool Courthouse and town square for Caldwell County while you're at it! :-) over 6 years ago
