Any recommendations on must see / visit or buy in San Diego ?

Hit up the Harbor (just South of the airport) and you can take in the Maritime Museum, the ferry to Coronado, tour a real aircraft carrier (The Midway), and grab lunch at the Fish Market. Then walk East on Broadway a few blocks to India, turn left and wander through Little Italy. Grab desert and coffee while taking in the culture. Left on Hawthorn and you're back where you parked by the harbor. Or right at the next traffic light (Laurel) and you're at the entrance to Balboa Park. If you like walking, you can take in all 3 in a day. +1 on eating Mexican Food. If you stay on India to Laurel, one block before Laurel is El Camino. Great Mexican food. Authentic with a touch of gourmet. almost 9 years ago

Where are some interesting landmarks, arty places i.e. galleries, shows etc, good coffee in San Diego?

For artsy places, your first stop should be North Park. It's an up and coming section of San Diego. Find the corner of University Ave. and Ray St. and you'll find a bunch of galleries. Food is one block over on 30th. The 2nd most artsy area is Little Italy. It has fewer galleries, but better coffee shops. For shows, Balboa Park has the Globe Theater. The Park is right between Little Italy and North Park. And then downtown there are a few excellent theaters, and plenty of live music. almost 9 years ago

    Popular clubs in San Diego?

Head down to the Gaslamp and throw a dart. Clubs all around. It doesn't come close to the LA or SF nightlife, but that's mostly because we San Diegans would rather hang out with friends at a brew pub (#1 craft beer city in the US) then pay cover charges and fight crowds for a $15 martini. almost 9 years ago
