How long does it take to walk the El Camino de Santiago de Compostela in Spain if one walks at a reasonable pace?
It depends where you start. I started in Saint Jean Pied de Port in France and made it to Santiago de Compostela in 35 days. It was over 800 km of walking with distances per day varying between 19 km and 34 km. I had 3 rest days during the 5 weeks. People start their journey at various places with the most popular starting point in Sarria just over 100km from Santiago. over 7 years ago
The municipal albergues cost about €5 a night. You will share a large room with around 60+ people. The beds are bunk beds and there is usually a male and female shower but sometimes they are unisex. The private albergues cost from around €7-15 and a room may sleep 6-8 people in bunk beds with a similar shower setup. Most towns have a €10 pilgrim meal which includes 3 courses, bread and red wine or water. Many town have hotels with prices starting at €30. You can do the Camino on €20-25 a day. over 7 years ago
