Should a solo female American dress conservatively in Istanbul?

Hi Kate Z. I always err on the side of conservative dress when traveling alone, especially in cities and in a culture where the dress norms may be conservative. Certainly, when visiting any government or religious places, it is the most respectful thing to do (to me this applies to anywhere in the world.) There have been a few questions asked similar to this in the past on this forum, so do take a look at advice contained therein as well as check out some of the safety articles on World Nomads' Safety Hub. Here's a link to one on solo female travelers in Turkey: http://journals.worldnomads.com/safetyhub/story/67941/Turkey/Womens-Travel-Safety-in-Turkey over 8 years ago

we are looking for couples to work trade at our hobby farm, what are good sites to post on

Craigslist is global, but look at WWOOF to explore listing with them. They are a great global organization. GoOverseas may also be an option in their work abroad section. about 8 years ago

What to pack for 1 month in Thailand and Cambodia?

If you are a walker, you'll definitely want to bring light hikers. Depending on time of year, a light rain jacket, long sleeve shirt(s) ( which can double as a jacket of sorts for cooler evenings or going inti smarter places), flashlight/headlamp, sarong (great as beach towel, sheet, pillow cover, skirt, etc) sunhat, light dress, bathing suit, sports bra. I basically think what you need for a week trip (& adventure activities you will do), will also serve for a month (though I bulk on underwear for longer trips) because I do laundry along the way. There will be plenty of places that will do your laundry all in that area, so pack light! almost 9 years ago

Where in Barcelona is the best neighborhood to live?

Depends what you like but I'm a fan of Eixample. I also love the are by the Diagonal and Gracia train stations. Bit more edgy and gritty are the Barcelonetta and Borns areas, but lot of character. almost 9 years ago

Studying for a semester in Korea

I lived in Seoul many years ago, teaching students and Yonsei and Seoul U were always considered great schools for study by both foreigners wanting to learn Korean and the Koreans. over 8 years ago

Is it better to vacation in Maui or Kauai in December?

Really depends on what you like. Kauai has a lot f remote spots and less people. Not least Koke'e Stae Park and the northern Hanalei area are gorgeous. Poipu is on the outh and very touristy. Maui a bit more travelled, but Paia inland is a lovely hippy-alternative granola town, and over by bridges and the Io needle parks ar tranquil and authentic. Net-net, both are nice but different. about 8 years ago
