Where is the best place to go camping in Northern California?

Agree with Big Basin. Further north in Marin is Samuel p Taylor in the redwoods. Great for salmon spawning season in January ( I think they are still open then). I'm a big fan of Steep Ravine on the coast under Mt Tamalpais. Beautiful open views of the ocean. Skycamp in Pt Reyes national park is also fab for camping above the ocean. Great hiking in Pt Reyes too. It's a walk in site. Steep Ravine you must reserve as they give you the padlock number to drive your car down to the small parking area, then you have to walk or wheelbarrow you stuff to the site. Unless you book a cabin, which is right off the parking lot. about 8 years ago

What are some good surf spots around Santa Cruz? I'm looking for uncrowded spots within a short distance from around that area

Most surfers go off the main pier. But uncrowded would be further south to capitols, Seacliff or Manresa. I see lots of surfers walking their boards to beaches north on highway 1 off the Cabrillo Highway by Natural Bridges and 4 mile beach. about 8 years ago

What are de best places to hangout in San Fransisco?

Hi Ashly. Jann has some great suggestions. Also, be sure to search this forum for questions along this vein already asked as there are lots of good answers in there too. i would add that the Museum of Modern Art is fabulous. I think the first Tuesday of the month it is free, and they also have Thursdays when they open late at night so that's always a good evening fun too. Museums in Golden gate park have similar social nights and free days too, so check that out. Other cool neighborhoods: Hayes valley by the Civic Center (15 min walk from the Civic Center Bart train station.) definitely walk through Little Italy and up to Coit Tower for some nice views. Ride a bike across the GG Bridge and then lop over to either Sausalito or go further to Tiburon-take the ferry back, great day out. over 7 years ago

should I buy or rent in NYC?

I'm not aware of any rental options for winter clothes, but if budget is the issue, then head to a KMart ( one off west 34and another on east 8 at Astor Place.) Burlington coat factory is also a department store with variety and great prices. about 8 years ago

Road trip USA 8 weeks, what transport to use?

Small van/SUV or car with good mileage. car gives you a lot more freedom to park, check out smaller roads etc. to keep it cheaper than hotels every night, bring a tent and camp. Lots of great camping spots along the way. Travelers Auto Barn in Oz has a partnership with someone in the US. Contact their Sydney office to get more details as a convertible van that pops into a sleeper is the best of both. I've seen the model in San Diego, and they are nifty. http://www.travellers-autobarn.com.au/ about 8 years ago
