How long does it take to drive the scenic Route 1 from LAX to San Fran?

Be sure to check out Hearst Castle, St Louis Obispo and Monterey. I do the drive from Santa Cruz to SF often, and never tire of it, but by the time you reach Santa Cruz, you may be ready to just catch the 101 or 280 (via Hwy 17 inland from Santa Cruz for 20 miles over the mountain pass) and just peel into SF. about 8 years ago

In Washington DC on a sunday what can I do, this is for an over 55

There's a metro rail connection from Dulles to DC. http://www.commuterpage.com/metroconnect.htm Depending on the weather, DC is the PERFECT city for Sunday walking between the monuments, the Mall and museums (Smithsonian is a fave). I recently went to the Lincoln Memorial and was reminded of how impressive I is. It's near the Vietnam Memorial too. I've long been a fan of produce markets whatever I go, and Eastern Market ranks highly. Great placenta wander on a Sunday, food stalls too, so you won't go hungry http://www.easternmarket-dc.org/ Adams Morgan can be good gritty city people watching. Hotels, I've typically done Priceline, so no regular place to recommend, though I did stay at the Doubletree on rhode island avenue and it was great and easy to get around from there to Adams Morgan, Dupont, etc. about 8 years ago

Where would guys recommend to stay in NYC. We wanted a rental apartment for 7 days in the first week for September.

Check out some of the other answers to similar questions here. I like Brooklyn, east village, Gramercy/union sq and Chelsea. Brooklyn (brooklyn Heights, Carrol Gardens) is lovely- with great restuarants, nice leafy streets and brownstones, and if staying in the Heights, super one stop to Manhattan(court street/borough Hall stations) With the Manhattan neighborhoods it's easy to walk to everywhere and subway stops everywhere. I sublet on the Upper East side off 86th& 3rd and that was also easy to get about. Anything on the 4,5,6 line is easy in my view. Check out Murray Hill & Hells Kitchen ( by 9th/10th) about 8 years ago

What are some great diners in NYC.?

I love the Vynil Diner on 9th in midtown (40's? There are two on 9th) I like their modern Spin on diner food. For a Loungey diner experience with great trendy people watching, I love The Coffee Shop on Union Sq. about 8 years ago

Is Europe really too expensive for the world backpacker?

It can be challenging with a strong Euro for sure. Great tips shared in previous answer. Another great traveler and host website similar to Couchsurfing is Tripping.com about 8 years ago

Canada in autumn is it red?

It depends on where (and when in autumn) in Canada you mean, so a very broad answer is, "yes!" I.m used to the timing of the peak colours in Vermont, so with as a guide and knowing it peaks further north earlier, I'd say sometime in Sept is peak. Good guides are the various Province tourism websites that dedicate sections to the Fall Foliage, here's a page with many links: http://gocanada.about.com/od/outdooradventuretravel/tp/fall_foliage_reports.htm For the US weather.com has a tracker- they may have a section for Canada too. about 8 years ago

    Good restaurant in Vegas?

I loved B&B Ristorante Italian (Mario Batali) in the Venetian, though they do have steak on the menu. They have a menu online http://www.bandbristorante.com/dinner.cfm about 8 years ago
