A resident of Sydney, Australia for many years.
A ferry trip to Manly, grab an ice-cream as you walk to the beach along the corso then turn right and walk along the beach path to Shelley Beach. It's more protected than the main beach. If you're more adventurous and have more time, you can take the bus from Manly wharf to Palm Beach. The bus travels along the northern peninsular suburbs. More adventurous still, is to take the ferry from Palm Beach jetty to Patonga and back. It makes for a long day but you will have seen some of the wonderful sights of Sydney, that some Sydney-siders haven't managed. Another day out on the harbour with a difference: try lunch at the Sydney Flying Squadron, a yacht club at Milsons Point on a Saturday. The club races old fashioned 18 foot timber skiffs during the summer and organises a ferry to follow the race. You can buy a ticket at the club and enjoy the harbour while following the race. The club is within walking distance from Milson's Point railway station, and you can even walk across the Harbour Bridge to get there www.sydneyflyingsquadron.com.au Also you might try lunch at Centrepoint Tower, for a great view of Sydney. over 7 years ago
