Active seniors to be in Whitefish/Glacier Natl Park area Sept 8-15, 2012. What to see/do? Best Glacier lakes for canoeing? Avg. weather?
Lake McDonald, near West Glacier, is stunning and often glasslike -- ideal for canoes -- with gravel beaches and beautiful forests. The Lake McDonald lodge is a must-see, too, with Charlie Russell designs and a vintage atmosphere. Dress warmly, since nightly temps can be in the 30s and 40s. Glacier/Whitefish have had a cool summer, generally, so bring gear for light rain and cool afternoons. over 7 years ago
Yes! Bull winkles restaurant has an attached package liquor store, and the Market Place grocery store has a state outlet (closed Sundays). Both grocery stores carry beer and wine, coolers, etc., as do local convenience stores. over 7 years ago
The Gneiss Creek trail, which begins on Fir Ridge about 9 miles north of town, offers gentle, rolling access to a quiet but scenic part of Yellowstone Park. The Continental Divide Trail, accessed from Targhee Pass on US 20 , has grassy pine walks and stunning vistas. Closer to town, the Riverside route goes directly to the rippling Madison River, and the Rendezvous Trail system includes safe, wide paths for family hikes or bike rides. over 7 years ago
