Nepal, like most countries, has its safe and unsafe places - but generally if you are mindful and aware then you should be fine. Be aware of the dangers and you should be fine. Mainly petty crime in Kathmandu and a few scams on the most popular treks, but generally a very safe country to travel through. Going with a few friends will be safer as well. I disagree re Chitwain - I found this place to be relatively stress free and quite safe for travelling. almost 9 years ago

Agree - Sanur is very low tide and not very nice places to snorkel or scuba dive. Try Nusa Lemongan or Nusa Penida - or......... Flores! Its a short plane trip from Denpasar and not expensive and is Dive and Snorkel heaven! (I am here right now and planning never to come home!) almost 9 years ago

Currently in Bali - I could think of no better place for a honeymoon than a quiet private villa by the beach in Bali or Lombok (one of the Gili's) or even Nusa Penida. almost 9 years ago

What do you do when a friend invites themself to travel w/ you when you wanted to go on your own or with one other friend?
Sally, I have been there....... Honesty is always the best policy in my books and with a touch of diplomacy you should be ok. Just explain that the trip was already planned between you and xxx and you hate to break the dynamics and plans. Perhaps if your other friend is travelling as well you might be able to meet up at some point for a few days, if its in the middle of your trip you might even welcome the change. Travelling with friends can be really challenging, and its the very best way to get to know someone. almost 9 years ago

It is possible, we looked into this route when researching for our own African road trip. We rented a 4WD in J'burg from Bushlore, and it was so easy. Juts arrive, pick up the car, and go. It was packed with all equipment we needed for camping out, as well as two tents on the roof (there were four of us). After much discussion, we didnt stay in South Africa, but I know you can do it. almost 9 years ago

Jomson Trek in Nepal
Sadly the trekking agent I've used in the past has gone out of business, they were brilliant and as far as estimates on timing went - spot on! I believe its an 8-10day trek on fairly decent paths but fairly steep. Its about 100kms - so unlikely to do it in 6 days. almost 9 years ago
