Should I go to southern Laos?

Yes, definitely head south. As Gerald mentioned ... the islands are great, and Don Det is a piece of heaven to sit in a hammock on the water. Cheap accommodation all throughout Southern Laos as well. Definitely make time to check out the Bolavan Plateau! Tad Lo and surrounding areas are even more remote than small villages up north. Rent a motorbike/bicycle and explore waterfalls, nature and beauty all over Southern Laos! ( A good stop for traveling from the north is a stop over in Savannaket to check out the cool old shops lining the streets. You'll be lucky to run into any other tourists there! Very quiet!) about 9 years ago

Is it safe to ride motorbikes in Laos?

As previous people have said ... you have to worry about the road and weather conditions more than bandits. They have cleaned that up pretty well and they only warn you about one or two highways in between Luang Prabang, Phonsaven, and Vang Vieng. Still ... I wouldn't worry about it as much as making sure my helmet is on tight! Safe riding! :) about 9 years ago

What are some good things to do/see in Ho Chi Minh City?

I regret not doing the Cu Chi Tunnels... I've heard good things! Other than that ... definitely want to make your way down to Can Tho to see the floating market if you've never been to one. Other than that ... eat some pho and take a ride on the cyclo to see some sites! :) about 9 years ago
