We'd like your suggestions about going to Machu Pichu, Peru. Places to stay? Foods? Time of year? Trekking companies?
I stayed in the Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel. It was beautifully furnished, great service, spa-like environment. We loved it. This is right at the train stop in Aguascalientes. We got off the train, the hotel met us there and took our luggage and we walked over to the bus (buy tickets before hand in Cuzco for convenience) and boarded for the ride up to the citadel. Perfect. We went to Peru in July. Cuzco was very cold at night needing hats, gloves, coats but during the day we wore sweatshirts. Machu Picchu during the day we wore T-shirts. Nice buffet for lunch at the Sanctuary right at the top of the hill by Machu Picchu, but 700+ a night to stay. We purchased our trip and excursions through "Enjoy Peru". about 9 years ago
The drivers are nice, reasonable, will wait while you shop so parking is not a problem. Know good places to take you for whatever you need, ours kept the A/C running and had a cooler of cold water! Listen to those of us that have been there! This really is the best option. about 9 years ago
If you hire a good driver they will take you to the right neighborhoods for what you are looking for. There are jewelry areas, furniture areas etc. (And you don't need to worry about parking). about 9 years ago
