Has anyone found a good source for finding a RELIABLE private tour guide for a tour of Beijing's food hutongs? I fear being ripped off.
There is no government approved private tour guide in Beijing. Soothe best you can do is to ask your hotel in beijing to find you one. And usually they can speak some English and know some history but not brilliant. Better get a book or google for homework. Don't have to pay over RMB50 for a hutong tuktuk when you are there. Prepare RMB50 cash. No change will be given back. about 8 years ago
Is it advisable to go province hopping in china at the same time visiting "must see places" using the train as the mode of transportation?
A high speed train offers stops between shanghai and beijing. Otherwise Try to visit Xinjiang, Yunnan or Beijing by plane. about 8 years ago
What kinds of kids are you going to visit? If to very poor places, some pencils and chocolates would be great. Baseball and American football are not so popular in china. There is no US TV channel in China apart from some five star hotels. But cards can be a surprise as they might not be aware of at all, as an icon of US culture. about 8 years ago
